In addition, recent advances in computation capabilities have revolutionized Applied Mathematics and Statistics and have increased the need for more mathematical algorithms and models to validate computational results with sound and rigorous mathematical infrastructure. Therefore, Mathematics is the key to all sciences and Mathematics is undoubtedly a living and growing scientific discipline.

It is also an undoubtful fact that university student well-educated in Mathematics have better chances for a career in academia or industry. Currently, most university programs like: Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics and also social and biological sciences have among their course requirement good amount of mathematical and statistical training to ensure better career chances for their graduates.

Faculty and staff at the Mathematics department of the University of Jordan are committed to providing quality teaching services to its wide-spread student population including its undergraduate and graduate students majoring in Mathematics. Mathematics Department at the University of Jordan offers B.Sc., M.Sc. And Ph.D. degree in Mathematics. These programs are designed to prepare students for careers in business, government, industry and teaching. The department offers also another B. Sc. Degree in Actuarial Science for students who look for careers in insurance and pension institutions.

There are 27 full-time faculty members in the department (11 Professors, 4 Associate & 10 Assistant professors and 2 lecturers) specialized in the different areas and subdivisions of Mathematics and Statistics. There research is published in International Mathematical & Statistical journals. Our faculty are well-known nationally and internationally. In fact, most of our faculty have done their graduate studies in well-reputed universities in U. S. A, Canada& U.K.

To help achieve its goals in quality teaching & services, the department has two computer labs. These labs are well-equipped and network-linked for use by its faculty and its large student body.

For an idea about the department's load, the faculty student ratio is 1 to 19. The department offers each semester at least 120 Mathematics & Statistics courses and sections, ten courses for graduate students. Some part-timers are hired to assist the department in service courses.

The department has currently 494 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. In addition, the department has 350 undergraduate Actuarial Science students. The department awards annually about 100 B.Sc., 15 M.Sc. And 2 Ph.D degrees in Mathematics and Statistics as well as 60 B.Sc. Degrees in Actuarial Science.
