Arabic Department Holds a Periodical Session for H.E. Prof. Nasser Eddin Al-Asad

As part of the activities of the Arabic Department at FA, the Department holds a periodical session delivered by H.E. Prof. Nasser Eddin Al-Asad. In the sessions, Prof. Al-Asad talks about his autobiography and the most important moments in his life, as well as the intellectuals he met with.

FA Departments Hold Orientation Sessions for Part-time Lecturers.

All departments in the Faculty, at the start of the new semester, have held orientation sessions for new and part-time faculty members. The sessions aim at acquainting new faculty members and part-timers with all necessary facts pertaining to teaching at UJ as well as exchanging views on coordination and teaching. The target lecturers have been handed orientation files containing essentially all information which they need to know. The part-time lectures are divided among coordinators from permanent faculty members for ongoing consultation and assistance.

Writing Lab Established at FA.

A writing lab has just been established at FA, whose aim is to lend support to students who have difficulties or weaknesses in writing in English. The lab targets those students studying English in the Faculty of Arts, primarily at the Department of English, who still need assistance (beyond the courses they take) in writing good English. Professors who teach literature, linguistics and translation courses cannot devote enough time for students in their classes who still have noticeable language errors and problems with writing. In order to help those students, a writing lab was created to which the target students will be invited for sessions, conducted by both professors and excelling students, to receive help in producing error-free passages and essays. This new initiative is expected to make a difference in the lives of these students, hoping to illustrate that writing is not only accessible and “masterable” but also fun.

Urdu is at Faculty of Arts

FA starts teaching Urdu language as of the beginning of the next academic year 2007/2008 in cooperation with  the Pakistani    Embassy in Jordan.

FA International Conference on Discourse

FA holds its first international conference on discourse: Language, Literature, and Culture May 8-10, 2007.
More than 100 participants will take part in the said gathering which is opened by the UJ President, and supported by several government and non-governmental organizations.

Coffee Hour

Fulbright Professors in the Department of English Language and Literature hold a weekly coffee hour. It is an opportunity for all students to get together, especially these who are interested in knowing or studying in U.S.A, or talking about matters of mutual interest.

Graduate Student Lounge

Graduate Students now have a lounge that is dedicated for their convenience and use. The lounge is located in the Faculty of Arts Building, First Floor. The lounge gives graduate students privacy and a place to study in an informal setting.

As per the recommendations of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, the President of the University Professor Abdelrahim AL-Hunaiti approved a committee entrusted with the task of preparing a reliable examination for testing the proficiency of native speakers of Arabic.

Dr. Ghaleb Rabab’ah, the Assistant Professor in the Dept. of English Language and literature, has been appointed as Assistant Dean for Development.

The Faculty of Arts at the University of Jordan patronizes a new conference entitled "New Horizons in Discourse: Language/Linguistics, Literature and Culture", which will be held during the period 8-10 May, 2007.

Ten new faculty committees were formed as follows:

• The Conference Committee, planning to hold a conference in May 2007 entitled “New Horizons in the Linguistic, Cultural, and Literary Discourse”.
• The International Cooperation Committee aiming at enhancing international relations with universities. It seeks obtaining international grants for the Faculty of Arts.
• The Alumni and Society Committee aiming at keeping in touch with the graduates of the faculty.
• The Curricula Committee focusing on writing textbooks for courses taught in the faculty.
• The Quality Assurance Committee.
• The Faulty Support Committee seeking financial aid for the Faculty of Arts.
• The Creativity and Distinction Committee.
• The E-Learning Committee.
• The New Building Committee.
• The Counseling and Planning Committe.
