Student Accommodation

At present, on-campus student accommodation is available for female students only. The Deanship of Student Affairs operates two on-campus hostels capable of housing a maximum of (1000) female students. These are: Al-Andalus, established in 1973; and Al-Zahra’, established in 1981. Each hostel comprises three four-storey wings and each hostel is within walking distance from other on-camps buildings. The capacity of each wing at Al-Andalus Hostel is (150) students while that of Al-Zahra’ is around (150 - 189). Soon, UJ will inaugurate on-campus housing for male students at a hostel which is being built especially for this purpose.

No meals are provided at the hostels. However, students can have their meals at the University cafeterias and restaurants, which provide three meals a day at fairly reasonable prices, and are conveniently situated close by.

Semester fees for regular students are JD (83), while summer semester fees are JD (43). International students, on the other hand, pay JD (250) for semester fees and JD (125) for Summer semester fees.

Normally, the hostels give priority to accommodating Jordanian students who live far away from their families. This means that joining the University does not necessarily guarantee a place for the student at these hostels in the Fall semester. However, student accommodation in the Spring and Summer semesters is more guaranteed.

Male and female students who do not wish to live on campus, on the other hand, can find suitable accommodation in any of the furnished flats in the vicinity of the University campus.

Student Clinic

Sponsored by the Deanship of Student Affairs, the Student Clinic offers health care and medication. Available facilities include a dental care unit, a minor operations room, ambulance service, a pharmacy, a laboratory, and an emergency unit.

Grants and Part-time Jobs

Paid job opportunities on campus for limited hours are provided for needy students. Funds are also available for needy students in the form of partial grants and loans.

Sports Facilities

A stadium with a field for track sports with international standard specifications is available on campus. The stadium is used for festivals and the graduation ceremony. A closed gymnasium for volleyball, handball, basketball, and other indoor activities is also available on campus. Other sport facilities can also be found within the premises of the Faculty of Physical Education which include a swimming pool and a gymnasium equipped with different tools for training and practical instruction.

The Educational Advisor

The office is affiliated with the Council of Higher Education. Its main task is to look after students in receipt of scholarships from the Ministry of Higher Education, both Jordanian and non-Jordanian.

Community Centers

Established in 1976 by the Department of Sociology, the centers aim at catering to the needs of the deprived areas in Jordan and at providing educational and health programs for female residents and children. They also help in training students of Sociology on conducting field work and participating in social development programs. There are now two such centers in the Nazzal and Sweileh areas of Amman. Each center houses a children’s library, a clinic, a theatre, and a center for teaching women typing and sewing.

Multi-storey Car Parks

A three-storey car park is available to students in return for nominal monthly fees. Likewise, car parks are available at each of the faculties across the University.

The Internet Halls

Internet Halls are available on (18) different locations on campus. Each hall houses (18) PCs connected with the Internet to help students in their research and studies and to keep them on track with information technologies worldwide. Students can use the Internet for a minimal fee of JD (20) per semester. Training sessions are held to teach students on how to look for, explore, and get the information they seek.
