The regulations governing the award of Bachelor’s Degrees are issued by the Deans’ Council. They encompass all aspects of students’ academic life. What follows is a summary of the important regulations.+
Students are admitted to all departments & faculties on the basis of their grades in the Tawjihi (The General Secondary School Certificate Examination) or its equivalent. Admission is highly competitive. A number of seats are allocated to the sons and daughters of those working in the Armed Forces, the Ministry of Education, and the Jordanian national universities. No student, however, may be accepted in the humanities, social Sciences, and Sciences whose Grand Point Average (GPA) in the Tawjihi is lower than (65), or (70) in the Faculties of Shari’a, Nursing, Business, IT, or (75) in the Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences, or (80) in the Faculties of Engineering, and Pharmacy, or (85) in the Faculties of Medicine & Dentistry.
The University accepts mainly Jordanian students, but it allocates admission percentages to students from abroad. The study plans are devised in such a way that the credit hours required for the Bachelor’s Degree are as follows: Faculty of Arts (132); Faculty of Business Administration (132) Faculty of Shari’a (Islamic Studies) (132), Faculty of Law (141), Faculty of Physical Education (132), Faculty of Educational Sciences (132), Faculty of Social & Human Sciences (132), Faculty of Fine Arts & Design (132),Faculty of Sciences (132), Faculty of Agriculture (138), Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences (132), Faculty of Medicine (255 [6 years]), Faculty of Dentistry (193 [5 years]), Faculty of Nursing (132), Faculty of Pharmacy: Department of Pharmacy (162); or (216) in the Dep. Of Doctor of Pharmacy, in the Faculty of Engineering (160) except Dept. of Architecture (172), Faculty of King Abdullah (II) for Information Technology (132).
Each course carries three credit hours with the exception of some courses offered by the Faculty of Physical Education, and the courses involving lab, and sessions, which may carry up to five credit hours. On the other hand, seminar & research courses carry one & two credit hours, respectively.
Other Important Regulations

The duration of study for the Bachelor’s Degree with a normal course load is eight semesters or four academic years. In the Faculty of Agriculture, it is eight semesters and two summer sessions, & in Engineering & Pharmacy the duration of study is (5) academic years or (10) semesters, in Dentistry (5) year), and in Medicine (6) years.

The minimum duration for the first University degree shall be no less than three academic years in the faculties of the 4-year system, and not less than (4) academic years in the Faculties of the 5-years system, each year consisting of two semesters with an optional summer session added.

The duration of the semester is (16) weeks; the summer session is (8) weeks.

The minimum credit-hour load for regular (full-time students is 9 per semester, and the maximum is 18. In the case of graduation or obtaining a cumulative average of B and above in the preceding semester, a student is allowed to register for (22) hours.

Students are classified by year: first, second, third, fourth, and fifth in some faculties, in terms of accumulated credit hours, this is equivalent the successful completion of (30, 60, 90, 120) credit hours respectively..
Attendance

Attendance by all university students is compulsory in all lectures, seminars, and practical sessions in accordance with the credit hours determined for each course in the study plan.

A student shall not be permitted to absent him/ herself from more the (15%) of the total number of meetings prescribed for each course.

A student who accumulates class absences that exceed (15%) of the total number of meetings required for a course without submitting a medical report or justification acceptable to the Dean shall be disqualified from taking the final examination, and his grade for that course shall be zero (F). The student will have to repeat that course if it is obligatory.

A student who exceeds the (15%) limit by an excused absence shall not be permitted to accumulate class absences more that (20%) of the total meeting hours for any course. In the case of the approved absences exceeding (20%) of the total meeting hours, the student shall be considered to have withdrawn from the course and shall be subject to the provisions governing withdrawal.

The University, as of the spring semester of the (1995/1996), has adopted the following grading system:

In all cases the minimum passing grade in any course is (D).
The (GPA) obtained by the student in all the courses he studies in a particular semester is translated into a Merit System of evaluation illustrated as follows:

A student with a (GPA) of less than (2.00) shall be given a warning and will be placed under probation.
The students are accepted directly in their specialization in their academic departments as of the academic year (2002/2003).
Graduation diplomas are awarded when they are due at the end of every semester, the graduation ceremony shall be held only once a year, at the end of the second semester.
