Regulations of Masters’ Degrees
Regulations of Doctoral Degrees issued by the Deans’ Council at the University of Jordan.
Article (1)
“Regulations of Granting Master’s degrees in the University of Jordan” are effective from the beginning of the academic year 2005/2006.
Article (3):
Master’s degree requirements will be (33) credit hours, in accordance to the study plan endorsed by the Deans’ council. These requirements will have two tracks:N

Non-thesis Track:

Successfully studying (21-24) credit hours – obligatory courses : level 700
-
Successfully Studying (9-12) credit hours – elective courses : level 700
-
Successfully passing a comprehensive examination.

Thesis Track:
-
Studying successfully (15-18) credit hours – obligatory courses : level 700
-
Studying successfully (6-9) credit hours – elective courses : level 700
-
Submitting an approved thesis of (9) credit hours.

A. The student may study not more than (3) credit hours from outside his study plan of the level 700 or 900, as part of his elective courses upon recommendations of the two specialized committees of the department and faculty.
B. If the study plan includes (special topics), the student may study this course only once regardless of the topic.
Article (5):

Maximum total period to obtain a Master’s degree is six semesters, extendable for two more semesters by the Dean of the Faculty supervising the program.

The total number of semesters in which a graduate student may withdraw all his courses, take a leave of absence or fail to enroll should not exceed two semesters. Approved course withdrawals and leaves of absence do not count towards the total time period specified for the program.
Article (6):
Taking into account the maximum total period of the program, a graduate student may register for a minimum of (3) credit hours but not exceeding (12) credit hours. The credit hours of the thesis are not counted part of the student load.
Admission
Article (7):
The Deans’ council decides at the beginning of every academic year the number of graduate students to be enrolled in the Masters’ Programs based on the recommendation of the Council after considering the advice of the Committees of Graduate Studies of the departments and faculties.
Article (8): Admission Conditions
General Conditions:

A Bachelor’s degree with a minimum grade average (Good) or its equivalent from accredited universities on condition that the candidate provides evidence that his attendance at the university was at least (75%) of the total time period required for awarding the degree.

Graduates of the University of Jordan are allotted at least 50% of the seats decided for the program. The rest of the seats will be decided by the Deans’ council.
Special conditions:

The department that offers the Master’s program may add special admission requirements. Such special requirements should not be contrary to the conditions outlined by the general framework of the graduate studies programs.

The special conditions must be outlined clearly in the study plan submitted for endorsement. Such conditions must be documented as part of the program.
Article (9):

Applications for enrollment in the Masters’ programs are submitted using forms issued by the Registration and admission Unit of the University, during a time period defined by the Faculty of Higher Studies. Applicants should attach to their applications all the necessary documents.

The Council of The Faculty of Higher Studies issues the lists of all students admitted to the Masters’ programs, based on recommendations from both committees of higher studies in the Faculties that run the Masters’ programs.
Article (10):

A graduate student cannot be admitted to two programs simultaneously at any time during his study at the University.

If a graduate student was dismissed from a Master’s program, he may not be admitted to the same program again.
Article (11):
Graduate students admitted to any Masters’ programs should pass The Arabic and English tests decided by the Ministry of Higher Education.
Article (14):

A graduate student may transfer from a Doctoral program to another at the University.

A graduate student may transfer from a Doctoral program at another university into a similar Doctoral program at the University of Jordan if he fulfills the conditions of admission as well as having an available vacant seat in the program he/she is aiming to join. His accumulative average should not be less than (3.00) points or “very good” or equivalent.

Article (1)
“Regulations for Granting Doctoral degrees in the University of Jordan” are effective from the beginning of the academic year 2005/2006.
Article (3):
Doctoral degree requirements will be (54) credit hours, in accordance to the study plan endorsed by the Deans’ council. These requirements are distributed as follows:

Successfully studying (18-21) credit hours – obligatory courses : level 900

Successfully studying (15-18) credit hours – elective courses : level 900
-
The student may study not more than (6) credit hours from outside his study plan of the level 700 and/or 900, as part of his elective courses upon recommendations of the two specialized committees of the department and faculty.

If the study plan includes (special topics), the student may study this course only once regardless of the topic.

Passing the qualifying examination in the field of specialization and related knowledge, after completing the third semester at least.
-
Publishing (or acquiring acceptance to publish) at least one paper pertinent to his dissertation in an accredited specialized scientific journal before defending his dissertation.

Submitting an approved dissertation of (18) credit hours, which incorporates original research that adds to science and knowledge
Article (4):

The department may specify a number of prerequisite courses at the Bachelor’s and Master’s level, not exceeding (9) credit hours to be undertaken by the student as part of his study plan. These courses will be identified on the student application form. However, these courses may be waived by a subsequent recommendation of the two specialized committees of the department and faculty and approved by the Council.

The prerequisite courses undertaken by the student do not count towards his Ph.D. degree. These courses will not appear on his transcript and are not used to calculate the accumulative average.
Article (5):

Maximum total period to obtain a Ph.D. degree is ten semesters, extendable for two more semesters by the Dean of the Faculty supervising the program.

The student may not submit the dissertation proposal before completing successfully at least (18) credit hours, with an accumulative average of (3.00) point at least, and passing the qualifying examination.
