Call for applications is now open for the Intensive Summer Course in Latin Language



The University of Jordan and The Italian Institute for Classical Studies are pleased to announce that the call for applications is now open for the Intensive Summer Course in Latin Language, which will be held at the University of Jordan in Amman, from 30/6/2018 to 2/8/2018​


       1. It is the first intensive course of its kind in the Arab world, and aims at reviving the study of Classics in Jordanian Universities;

     2. It includes 4 hours/day of teaching Latin, from Saturday to Thursday, for 5 weeks, conducted by the professors of the Italian Institute for Classical Studies;

      3. Teaching will be entirely in Latin, based on the ‘natural’ immersion method; i.e. it is not based on translation and does not require previous knowledge of English or any modern language;

     4. The course targets students and researchers interested in ancient and medieval philosophy, arts, theology, languages, law, medicine, modern sciences, pharmacology and archeology;

      5. The cost of the course is 760 JDs (900 euros), which covers 120 hours of classroom teaching, textbook, assisted afternoon study, and two excursions to Jordanian cities characterized by Roman architecture and history;

      6. The University of Jordan will provide full and partial scholarships to aid some participants, pending availability of funds.

     2. The Latin intensive course committees at the University of Jordan and the Italian Institute will revise the applications and announce the names of the accepted candidates at the beginning of June 2018;

      3. The maximum number of participants will be 80.
